Ready to discover the benefits of chiropractic care?

When you come to PCH Chiropractic after we do a detailed posture evaluation and a full body exam, we will prescribe for you corrective exercises. As we restore your body’s proper posture that will help to regain your health, we want to make sure that your body is getting stronger and able to maintain itself in its best posture. The exercises that we will prescribe are specific to you, your condition, and your posture. Some people will be prescribed neck exercises, some others will be low back, or mid-back exercises as well as small refined exercises that might help you at work too. The exercises that we prescribe, are all based on your x-rays, in order to create long-lasting changes in your spine.

Muscle weakness and imbalance can be linked to many conditions including headaches and neck pain. Often with poor posture, including forward head posture, the anterior neck flexors, lower trapezius, and serratus anterior muscles can become weak. On the other hand, the posterior neck extensors, upper trapezius and levator scapula, and pectoralis muscles can become weakened. This is what we also call upper cross syndrome. This type of posture and muscles are directly linked to the other muscles supporting your skull and keeping you upright. Therefore, constant strain in those muscles can cause both tension headaches and cervicogenic headaches.

This type of muscle imbalance is something that can be worked on by a patient on at home given the proper instructions by the staff at PCH Chiropractic. Everyone has a different posture and when you come to PCH chiropractic, we make sure that we give you personalized in office, AND at home exercises based on your specific posture. You will be given your “homework” to do, which can help lead to more lasting changes in your spine, your posture, and ultimately your overall health.

More common Exercises that outpatients perform can include:

  • Posterior head translation (Chin tucks)
  • Pectoralis stretch (doorway stretch)
  • Isometric Neck Extension with a Theraband or some type of elastic band (shown above)
  • Sternocleidomastoid stretch
  • Bruegger w/ head retraction
